Centerpiece Inspiration: Defying Gravity

What could be more dramatic than a centerpiece that’s almost 6 feet tall? For your inspiration, here are a few of my favorite gravity-defying centerpieces:
place settings, table setting,flowers,wedding centerpieces,bouquets,arrangements

How do we keep these centerpieces from falling? The answer to that will need to wait for tomorrow…

But tell me, which do you prefer? Tall or low centerpieces?

I LOVE tall centerpieces. It all depends on how they are designed though.

I adore the drama of tall centerpieces. Low have their place, but the height and grandeur of a lush, tall centerpiece is just so appealing.

Tall with Visual interest from the table all the way to the top! Gorgeous Pictures!!

I concur that the tall centerpiece is the way to go for all out drama, especially in a venue with ceiling height that lends itself to height and drama.

But, I want them to be created and placed so table conversation is fostered and not prohibited as so many people make the mistake of doing with tall centerpieces.

What I love about some of the pieces in these images are guests feel like they
are under a canopy or shaded by these beautiful creations. They are not a distraction but an enhancement.

Low and long settings on a family or Kings’s table always look fantastically abundant to me as well.

I think tall is the way to go… It allows for easy conversation around the centerpieces and gives a dramatic effect enough to blow the dress off a bride!

Preston, you are inspiration to us all.
amazing! thanks for sharing your designs.
i love the combination of high and low, but sometimes the drama of all high is WOW!!

I have always loved tall centerpieces. It looks expensive and makes the room feel alive as soon as you enter. It provides the eye visual interest whether you are sitting down at the table or dancing the night away… I say the higher the better.

Thank you for posting this blog. I love Tall centerpieces….them falling is what I fear most. I am not a big time designer, but every job I do I want them to think that nobody else could have done it better. I love your work!

  • Henry Waqa.

Tall centerpieces are better. Short centerpieces cannot really be seen in a room full of people but walking into a room with tall centerpieces is like walking into a magical wonderland!. It has greater visual impact than shorter centerpieces, especially for big events!

Depends on so many variables. Room size, location, table shape and size.
I love the effect of tall, to obliterate a nondescript ceiling, or a low and condensed arrangement to focus on the table settings.
So much depends on the magic of the event, the desires of the bride or host, and the creativity of the designer.
I turn to Preston Bailey for all.
Thank you for your magic. It truly inspires the rest of us.

Tall centerpieces are very captivating when entering the room.
And low centerpieces complete the look when everyone is seated and relaxed.
I’ve noticed Preston mixes tall and low centerpieces in most of his work.
My answer is a good mix of both.
question: Preston, have you had any mishaps with candles in your designs?

  • Ebony Coston

I like a mix of both! Tall and low, it keeps the eye roving about the room, and make for a more interesting visual. Preston your designs are phenomenal! amazing! captivating! I’m in love….

I have to say that I am a HUGE fan of the large and tall arrangements. I love when they are dramatic and ‘gravity defying’ as it almost creates a new feeling of intimacy at the table since you are surrounded or canopied by lushness. It’s like an individual secret garden. LOVE!

Love the mix of heights! I always think the tall arrangements stand out more when there is a mix. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s article, not only would I love to know how you keep them from falling but also what the bases are constructed of that you can have florals around the entire structure, is it floral foam?

I think some ballrooms, venues, demand the height. However, I am finding a lot of clients are opting for low this coming year. Seems to be the trend.

Tall is fab as long as the ceiling height and room dimensions work for the over all look. Height creates the wow on entry as part of an overall look whatever the theme. We love Tall Centrepeices in Ireland ……

    I can’t remember if I answered this already. :-)

Love tall centerpieces, but they must not block people from others. Tall, thin on the bottom and full and rich on the top! That is the way to go. Fill in the spaces with low candles or tablescaping!

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAY?

  • http://www.facebook.com/SpoodlesDarling Beverly Spann

    Hello Mr. Bailey;
My name is Beverly Spann and you inspire me to want to become an event designer. I’ve watched David Turtera and Ms. Valentine, but they can’t compare to what you do! I really want to take your course online, but I also want more hands on projects as well. I’m the type that wants to get started. I so eager and passionate about it. Although I am disabled, it doesn’t limit me from what I can accomplish. I’m currently preparing and informative speech in regards to event designing and seem to have hit a blank spot in my mind. I’ll be presenting this information to a classroom of about 25 people and I am scared to death. This project is due this Monday. Can you give me any suggestions on what to say in regards to event designing? Your help would truly be appreciated. Keep up the success because I’ll be one of your next students who will be doing an internship working with you personally. Love Preston, keep up the good work
