I've been an events coordinator and host for a decade, among the plan B that I keep are: 1. For outdoor weddings and receptions: bring a desk fan for the bride and groom.... some nights get warm and balmy in the Philippines, great for romance but not for the wedding gown clad bride. 2. For Tent based events: bring a flashlight just in case the generator set malfunctions during the program proper. 3. For outdoor weddings: I always have a couple of folding umbrellas (color: white or black only) in case of sudden showers or if the bride has to stand in so much sunlight before she walks down the aisle.

Preston, would you share how you do those wonderful light effects on a low budget? Some clients would love it but could not afford the big light suppliers. What colored gel do you use? Where do you buy those?

Thank you so much for this blog!! I consider myself the #1 fan of pipe/draping and lighting and tents. You can take an unappealing reception hall and turn it into something no one has every seen.

My sisters and I gave a birthday celebration for ourselves and at the last minute, two of the sisters decided they were going to do the event their way without the ohers input. They decided to have the event at a local Motel and they changed the menu, step up, food, bar attendant, and the DJ and didn't tell anyone. Well, too our surprise when we arrived to the place to set up, we were informed of the changes that had been made. Well. LET ME TELL YOU Preston, the place was invested with cock roaches, they were dancing on the dance floor with the guests. The food was prepared at home, but must have sat out too long, because it tasted bad. The DJ left and said he left something in the car and didn't come back for 3 hours. What a disaster! That was one time I wish I had a back up plan. Everyone wants to be a chief but no one wants to be an Indian. I have event planning experience, but they didn't think I knew what I was talking about when it came the location, time, and how many people were coming and how to accommodate the people in a very professional manner. I tell you Preston, I was so embarrassed , I wanted to just leave that event.

Living in the Texas Panhandle, and planning events here, Plan B is usually the first words out of my mouth. We've definitely had to use it. The key is, like you said Preston, giving the bride peace of mind. If you have a Plan B, and maybe sometimes a Plan C, tornadoes, (yes, I have evacuated to a pre-determined area), hurricanes, hail and snow won't keep a good wedding down! Thanks Preston for reminding all of us of the importance of this.

I have one rule for my Vermont brides: You are not allowed to worry about the weather! You must have a plan B so if it is raining (or it rained like heck the day before!) you are not disappointed with your wedding plan. I once did a wedding on July 4th weekend and after being re-routed on our way to the site because of a parade it started hailing an hour before the wedding! The bride was calm and decided to just postpone the ceremony by a half an hour and they had a beautiful outdoor wedding! You just never know.

Plan B? What is Plan B?
I think Plan B is overlook many times.
Preston, maybe your next book can be titled "Plan B" and include lots of stories from top fellow designers.
