Again, this is just based on my experience working in these areas. If you think differently, definitely let me know.
This week, I’d love to introduce my all time favorite type of flower: ORCHIDS. Nothing gives me more joy than when I see an orchid I have never seen before for the first time (this, by the way, happens rather often). Growing up in Panama, where the national flower is a rare orchid (La flor del espiritu santos), it was the one type of flower I noticed as a child.
I believe orchids to be the most sensual looking flowers. For me, they represent the beauty of the feminine in all her glory. But even with these most perfect flowers, I have seen some of them go IN and OUT of style. There are hundreds of varieties of orchids, but here are are a few popular ones:
Dendrobium
Cattleya
Phalaenopsis
Vanda
Cymbidium
Which of these flowers do you think are IN or OUT?

LOVING vandas right now!! So much pop of purple you get with them that you can’t really find in other purple flowers. Phaelanopsis are also an all time favorite- so man different fabulous varieties and the colors are amazing. But really I think i just love all orchids too. Just can’t ever go wrong with cymbidiums, oncidiums, mokaras, cattleyas, dendrobiums…oh and let’s not forget LADY SLIPPERS!!

I love the Vanda orchid for this season personally.
The Cymbidium is such a traditional Spring orchid and corsage that is just a staple to any flower shop no matter when.
This is what I would buy for my flower shop this season.

Vandas seem to be the “IT” orchid these days. I’m working with vandas and mokaras a lot (in Boston). Phales are classic, never out of style. Cymbidium — I love all the color options. Dendrobium, I think are out– too common these days.

Orchids will never be out! Dens are a great inexpensive option, phales are the most gorgeous. Cymbidiums are probably my personal favorite.

I love orchids. The first time I met my fiance’s family, his mom gave me an orchid. She has them in her home, so they remind me of his family. I want fuchsia orchids at my wedding

Is anything that shows true beauty ever really “out”?
I personaly think that ALL flowers, each in their own way, can show a classic beauty which is timeless.
Although I have to admit phalaenopsis are exeptionaly beautiful!

The above flowers are so expensive in the Philippines that these are used as accents to a bouquet filled with roses, malaysian mums. My personal favorites are the stargazers with their wonderful scents…. i just pinch off the pollen so as to avoid stains on the clients’ gowns.
