Your Turn

Preston's Book
One of my jobs as a work in progress. Wanted to share this because it’s one thing that gets me excited–starting the process of bringing my design to life.

Hi folks, I’ve been sharing all week so now I want to hear from you. I’d like to experiment with a new series for Fridays called Your Turn. I’m going to throw out a few questions that I’d love to hear your thoughts about.

Feel free to answer one or all of them…

  • Did you get any new clients this week? What’s exciting about this potential new relationship?
  • What about this weekend? Is there something spectacular you’re working on? Tell me all about it.
  • Share your inspiration. What tingled your senses this week? What invigorated you and inspired you to create?

Leave your answers, thoughts, etc below in the comments. It’s your turn.

Hi Preston! I’m a huge fan…you do amazing work. I love making greeting cards; birthday, thank you, and holiday. I use acrapbook paper, stamps, glitter and my Cricut die cutting machine. Since Mother’s Day is fast approaching I’ve been looking online and in idea books for inspiration. I’ve come across some amazing ideas that I will surely use this weekend to create my own masterpieces. I hope my love ones appreciate the time and effort I put into each card!

    Blessings,
    Kellee

Preston you are such an amazing inspiration!! Right now I’m working on a line of eco-friendly couture wedding invitations and I AM really excited because spring has been inspiring me to no end!! Cherry blossoms, shoes (love Christian Louboutin Miami!) and flowers galore! I also have to thank you for the color palette tool…it’s incredible!!

Lately I’ve been inspired by flow. Maybe it’s because of the yoga class I just started taking. I’ve noticed that I’m not as rigid in my designs and am definitely moving towards a more natural feel in my creations. So I’ve been paying attention to the beauty around me, and to the shapes and forms nature takes. I’m letting my creativity flow with the items I’m working with.

    Mr Bailey why thank you!

OK, so I am waaaaaayyyyyy excited, I took a course and exam and became a certified Sustainability Professional, this week I am hyped!!! This will open up doors for me in the Interior Design Industry. I also attended the High Point Furniture Market and established some new contacts, only i am new to the game, so I have to learn the ABC’s of the business..”always be closing”…

It is not in my nature to close, so it may take a while, but honey I can tell you about some “green” practices until you are blue in the face…lol

    @Stacey..”woot woot”

    Thanks again!

Yes, we did get a new client this week. We made a proposal to a banquet hall owner to spruce up his lobby and change the decor from being race-specific. We got the job. We are all excited about this hall’s subsequent opportunity to appeal to a broader section of the population in this area.
Thank you sir for challenging us to think big.

Well right now, my only client is myself; I’m not an event planner/designer. However, I helped a friend plan our mutual friend’s bridal shower (suggesting design elements and websites) and I also suggested many things to the bride for her wedding. She sent me a thank you note, saying that I should be a wedding designer/planner. It really made my day, and it really made me think. Perhaps I will! I feel a little scared, but I love weddings, I love love, and I love making someone’s special day, even more special <3! Wish me luck Preston <3

I’ve been working all week to try and give form to the formless – creating about 20 light sculptures for an outdoor gig. My colleague just told me that a couple of ambassadors are gonna be attending the event. Added pressure and excitement. It would be an important event for our company. So far, the 2 main challenges for me are: how to hide the supporting structure of the sculptures and how to make the sculptures look good through daylight, twilight and darkness…. Today I was poking around in a knitting supplies store and I think I’ve hit on an answer for the sculpture armature! Moral of the story folks: when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping… Tomorrow (Sunday) I’m gonna try to put it all together.

This weekend we have 2 HUGE (Preston size!) weddings- one was more traditional with large centerpieces on tall silver candelabras with Esperance roses, pink hydrangeas, Sweet Unique roses, phalaenopsis orchids, etc. The other wedding was grand paves of Sana & Sweet Unique roses incorporating these gorgeous black candelabras we got from Z Gallerie with rose balls sitting in place of candles on the candelabras. After this weekend we have no more pink weddings… mostly peacock inspired weddings & all shades of purple! This was our first big wedding weekend of the year! Hope all is well in the land of Mr. Bailey ;)

Preston, Your work is some of the most beautiful I have ever seen in my life. Although I am not a designer, I have been working on a project for almost four years without realizing any part of my vision. Procrastination is the name of my game and fear to step out on faith. When I started this project on researching jazz in the forties, I did not know that it would be become an emotional journey that has taken me from the Hill District in Pittsburgh to 52nd Street and Minton’s playhouse in New York to World War II, and to Paris to mingle with the expatriates. My vision has been to recreate the places to educate using dialogue but I am totally mentally stuck. I can see how things should look with the glamours clothes and uplifted hair do’s and the dapper suits and shoes of the men as we revisit that period in our lives. Through the oral histories of many of these players, their visual discriptions of how beautiful some of the places were puts everything in detail. I wanted to use this production as a fund raiser as part of the “Keep Music In The Schools” project. As you, you can see, my procrastionation is preventing me from moving forward in ways that I know I am capable of.

    Thanks for asking

BRENDA, IT’S RERESHING TO HEAR SOMEONE TALK ABOUT THEIR PROCESS AND HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO GET A VISION REALIZED.. I TOO, KNOW THAT STUCK FEELING WHERE YOU HAVE ALL THESE IDEAS AND DO LITTLE THINGS, BUT CAN NEVER GET IT TO COME TOGETHER OR EVEN TO BRING IT TO A SERIOUS LEVEL… FOR ME IT’S FEAR OF PEOPLE SEEING ME FOR WHAT I THINK IN THE DEEPEST WAY ABOUT MYSELF… PERHAPS BEING MADE TO FEEL “LESS THAN”… IT ALL COMES FROM “THE LITTLE CHILD WITH IN’ THAT IS PERHAPS FROZEN.. IT YOU CAN WORK ON THE DEEPER REASON OR EVEN BE CURIOUS AROUND WHY IS THS HAPPENING YOU CAN MOVE SOME OF IT AND THEN THINGS WILL START TO HAPPEN… I HAVE WORKED HARD ON THIS PART OF MY BEING AND IT HAS HELPED ME MOVE FORWARD… AND REMEMBER SMALL STEPS AT FIRST…

Did we get a new client this week? Having recently opened what I like to call an upscale ladies clothing boutique, each time we sell a gown, I guess we receive a new client. As a past boutique owner yourself, I know you understand the challenges of staying up with the latest the fashion world has to offer. My inspiration is listening very carefully to each customer or potential client who walks in the shop door. While you can’t please everyone and space is at a premium, you have to watch, listen and consolidate their thoughts, then when buying, try to obtain something that is timeless.
