Your Turn: Your Favorite Foreign Food

Preston

Just got back from doing a job Indonesia. It was a long 16 hour flight–huge thanks to my wonderful clients who flew me back first class on Cathay air (it was fantastic).

While there, I had to deviate from my raw food diet for 10 days…and I’m glad I did because I loved their food. A huge bonus about doing work all over the world is that I get to try the most amazing cuisine from different regions.

In this week’s Your Turn please share your favorite kind of foreign food.

Favorite foreign food would probably have to be gelato (so this might not count as a foreign food) but I first had it on a hot day in Sienna, Italy while walking around. And cool, fresh strawberry gelato just did the trick! It was fantastic!

Oh Indonesia must have been lovely! Personally I’m a fan of Middle Eastern and Moroccan cuisine :)

As a Dutch who has grown up in Surinam (Indonesian mother/Duch father) I must say that I have experienced a diversity of cuisines; authentic Chinese, Indonesian, Indian, Jewish, Creole… and even though I enjoy all these different tastes. it is the Japanese kitchen that I prefer the most!

You look so sweet in your jammies and slippers. I would have to say it would be French bread and German Cream Puffs.

Noodles! Noodles! Noodles! I live and die for the greatest invention known to my belly! My cooking is inspired by all things Asian! Here is a list of some of my favorite dishes all inspired by one thing and one thing only. Noodles! When I am not eating Noodles I switch to her cousin, Rice!

(1)Pho Bo: a hearty ox tail soup with rice noodles thin slices of beef & onion, served with bean sprouts, basil & hoisin dipping sauce on the side

    (2) Pho Ga vietnamese clear chicken broth with rice noodles

    (3) momofuku ramen – pork belly, pork shoulder, poached egg
chilled spicy noodles – sichuan spiced sausage, spinach, cashews
ginger scallion noodles – pickled shitakes, cucumber, menma

    (4) Miso Ramen soy bean based noodle soup topped with beansprout, cabbage, onion, crispy garlic, chicken and scallion

(5)Zha Jiang Men chilled noodle and sweet sauce with ground pork, ginger, garlic, shiitake mushroom, bamboo shoots, scallion and cucumber

I know, this may be a bit narrow minded on my part, but my brain is programed this way. Matter of fact, it has been this way for quite some time and frankly, i love it. Tatjana and I have been in Montreal for the past week working and staying with friends. I decided to venture out into the local market and ran into the best batch of Basil my nose had ever sniffed. It inspired me to make a fish stew. Everything i do in life is fueled by cooking. For me it’s rewarding and at the same time empowering! It was one of my best. Here is the receipt if you don’t mind! I could tell you how to make this one, but putting your spin on it will bring you much joy! Enjoy!

    Halibut
    coconut milk
    coconut oil
    tomatoes
    scallions
    sea salt
    basil
    zucchini
    and Ramen noodles

My favorite…that’s hard. I love Peruvian, Korean, Thai and Indian.

  13. Mr. Bailey, I’m starting a business, and I want to look my best before clients. Please tell me more about your raw diet, so I can see if I can incorporate it into my lifestyle.

Many say I look and have aspirations like Oprah, so I guess I inherited her weight problem too.(But still happy with me me because I’m beautiful (LOL). “O”

I love PERUVIAN food!!! It is amazing all kinds of potatoes you can find and they use a different kind of hot pepper for every meal… And they are experts cooking rice!! I you ever have the chance to visit Peru (or at least to go to a peruvian restaurant) try the CEVICHE (raw fish cooked on lemon juice, served with raw onion… just delicious!), LOMO SALTADO (meat, onion, tomato, cilantro with a chinese coocking techique… served with rice), and an endless etcetera!!!
Or just visit me and I will cook for you!! Im Peruvian!! hahahaha.
    Love your blog!
