To Do: Downsizing

In other words, getting rid of junk, both mentally and physically. In my post last Friday I asked you to tell me at least three things you could not live without and I was more than pleasantly surprised that in most cases your “things” fell into these three categories in this order:

1. Your family
2. Your beliefs
3. Things

(Mine also generally fell into these three categories.) This lead me to create the topic for my To Do list this week: downsizing.

Let’s start with downsizing the mind junk. Create a list of three beliefs you think you can’t live without and replace them with a positive affirmation. For example:

Belief: It’s too difficult to get clients.
Affirmation: Nothing is too difficult if you set your mind to it. I am willing and open to create many situations to welcome new clients.

Belief: I am not creative enough. I am not good enough.
Affirmation: There is no end to what is inside of me, creatively, waiting to come out.

Belief: It will take too long to accomplish what I want.
Affirmation: A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, so start walking.

I read once that in order to allow anything new to come into your life, you need to create room for it.

The next portion is getting rid of physical junk. So, folks look around your office and home and select three items to give to someone who needs it. (And, I don’t mean just trash.)

My selections are:

  • A piece of furniture
  • Books
  • Clothing

What are the first three pieces of “junk” you would get rid of?

    Clothing for sure.
Clutter – an untidy office or home space makes me physically feel creatively blocked.
Leftover event decor (example: 2 vases, 10 votives, etc – either use it or LOSE it)

The Universe doesn’t like vaccuums, so it will fill those spaces with new, and better things! My three things? The junk in my Jeep! Cans of paint that will never get used. And, like Crystal said, leftover event decor “bits”. Yeah! I feel better, already.

Definitely the decor that has been sitting boxed in my original studio for quite some time! I would like to use it to help someone with design passion start up their wedding design business. My old inspiration could be stepping stones for someone getting there chance! My closet is defiantly in second place. We never have enough time to clean it out completely. Good Will here I come. I thought about my books but I think I will just have to build a bigger shelf. I LOVE knowledge and learn something new every day! Anyone read Blue Ocean Strategy??

Hi Preston…Love this post. I am a big believer in positive affirmations. I will definitely be adding yours, because their right on target for me. Thanks!
Three things to give away: 1. A wall unit I don’t need any more. 2. Clothes/Coats/Shoes~Someone else could definitely benefit having them 3. Books I love to read~ but I don’t have to keep everyone.

I can definitely donate books, shoes, and few “what was I thinking” handbags. Thoughts/affirmations: why would anyone hire a newbie? i have a unique, special design perspective and if i build it, they will come…in abundance. Nobody can afford to pay for these type of designs and parties. I am surrounded by wealth and I am open to repositioning myself to receive it. what if I fall flat on my face? hmmmmmm…I have something inside of me that only I can give to this world…it is my charge and my responsibility. I will stand up like a big girl and keep walking to fulfill that purpose.
