Your Turn: Are you a wedding planner or event designer? (Or both?)

Preston with Marcy BlumAs you know, every week I like to do a Your Turn post so  we can get to know each other better. Obviously, by reading through your posts I know that most of us are in the events industry, but I got to wondering…

Which of you out there are wedding planners and which of you are event designers? And if you’re an event designer, is there a wedding planner whom you love to work with? And why?

For example, I love working my good friend and amazing planner Marcy Blum.

Let me know!

I’m neither a planner nor an event designer. I’m a cake designer. Although I’m not a planner or event designer, Preston, your blog is the most useful site I’ve found for helping me with my business. Thank you.

I’m a wedding designer but that doesn’t happen without planning. :)
I prefer not to plan but most of our clients don’t work with planners because they think they can handle everything themselves. I guide in that process and advise.

I would like to enroll in your team to become a professional wedding planner and event designer. I used to work for one of the biggest bank in my country as an event designer, for 9 yrs, and now I am working on my own as a freelancer event designer. But I am not satisfied. I can do more than that, if I can learn from one professionals like you are.

Hi Preston~ In answer to your question, I am an event planner and designer specializing in weddings. There are so many wonderful talents out there whom I’d love the experience of working with, including you! I’d also love to work with Sasha Souza and David Tutera.

I’m both – depending on the budgets really. With smaller budgets I’m the planner and designer and with the larger budgets I’m the planner. Although for Bridal Shows our displays are all about design, its what I love to do most.

I am a planner and I do events as well. I just opened my business last year. I am currently taking the Wedding Planner course given by Lovegevity and I am planning on taking your designer class – Just waiting for some finances to open up. My heart and passion is to become a designer for weddings and events. Thus far, your blog has helped me along tremendously, especially the blog in regard to “what does your website say about you”. I am looking forward to the day that I won’t have to work a 9-5 and I can devote 100% to Wedding Planning.

.Event and wedding designer for sure, I don’t think you can be a creative person and have the organisational brain as well. When I kept being asked if we planned and managed events and weddings I took on a wedding and event coordinator who is fabulous. We all have our niches, my attention to the creative details and then her attention to the other details work very well together and provide our clients with a 5 star service. I don’t think you can combine both.

I do both given the size of the event,,,and the client,,most ,trini ,have their friends do the planning,,but have the designer,do the designing with your input in planning,Thanks for being so interactive,,and helpfull,,,God Bless.

    Hi Mr. Bailey,
I laughed when I saw this. I often ask myself this same question. Primarily I am a planner. I do however, sketch my tablescapes, floral designs and lighting applications. At some point I want to do both equally. Good question.

I am a event planner focused on corporate and non-profit events. I have done several weddings, which have come as referral. I am exploring event design more as a added opportunity for the business and my clients.

I specialize in wedding and event design. I am lucky enough to be able to work with some amazing wedding coordinators. I feel like it gives me more time to focus on designing and then in turn the coordinators can work on the other details. Most of the time we will meet with clients together and play off of each others ideas to give our clients everything they ever imagined and more.

I am just starting out, I am from a very small country city that has begun to boom from our oil rush!! I have done 4 weddings and they were all for friend and family I basically did it for fun. I am enrolling in your online course next month. I have the idea to stock centerpiece and decor supplies and use them as rentals in my services instead of the client buying, I was wondering if in your opinion that is a smart choice? Also coming from a small area I have limited supply vendors do you have any online suppliers you would recommend. I apologize for all the questions. Thank you for being a great inspiration and teacher!
