Frequently Asked Questions: Do you write your own blog posts?

This is a familiar sight for most folks who walk into my office.

Yes, I do. Even with my poor grammar (forgive me folks, English is my second language), I write my blog posts. Of all the different aspects of my business, I really do prefer blogging. I have several reasons:

  • Let’s face it. Change does not come easily to me whatsoever. I am a creature of habit. (I used to eat oxtail stew and rice everyday for lunch, until I started my raw food diet). Starting something new is often a challenge. But I do love challenges. I read recently that in order to incorporate any new ideas or practice in our lives, one should repeat the practice at least 10 times before we adjust to the newness of it. I adore having to do this practice and taking the time to keep myself in the present.
  • I find that blogging every day is a form of meditation. I meditate on my mistakes, my to do list, questions folks like you ask me, etc. I try to show everyone that even though I have put in 30 years in the event business, it ultimately doesn’t matter because we still experience the same issues: successes, failures, creativity, play, adventure… The important thing is to always keep moving, keep building and never give up. Lots of times, these challenges become a bit easier if we know we are not alone.

How do you keep focus in doing what you need to do? Are you also a creature of habit? Like me, have you ever had a great idea and not acted on it fast enough?

    Hi Preston,

It is hard to change a habit but I get so excited when I see the positive results of even the smallest change and that’s very encouraging.

    Thank you for your blog!

Hi Preston! I’m not sure where to submit my question, so I’m hoping this is an appropriate spot. My question is: How do you delicately navigate the inital conversation(s) with a client to suss out their ability to afford you *before* you expend a lot of energy and resources? Or set their expectations delicately without coming off like “This is how much I cost, can you afford it…?” TACKY! Please advise…

Hi Preston- I love your blog and read it daily. My question is can you provide some advice on the art of business organization. What software programs are you using in your business to stay organized and efficient? What software are you using,if any, when planning your events?

    Hi Preston,

I stay focused by creating inspiration boards for what I want to accomplish in my life/career etc. And a constant review of my goals and objectives, it helps me stay grounded and continuing on the path I have envisioned for myself.

One goal of mine is to work along side you and your team someday. I am sure you may remember that LARGE black and red (with hints of gold) box that landed in your office last January. Well I am still perservering to make that dream of mine happen. I hope when I move to New York in the next couple weeks (October 2010) we can talk :) .

Until then, its great to read your blogs, they inspire me on a daily basis to continue doing what I am doing, and that no matter what happens, to always get up and keep on going! Because mistakes happen. :) however what you learn from them is what can truely make you who you are.

    All the best to you,
    Julie Addario

I was surprised by this one! I don’t know where you find the time to write such thoughtful, comprehensive posts. I appreciate the intelligent things you have to say, and the kind and generous way you say them. Your experience shows, and your honesty makes everything so personal and interesting.

What a beautiful office space you have!

    Keep on writing…in any language!

I find inspiration when i’m doing something I love, like working with people in all different aspects. From the bride to the caterer to my assistants, I love all the prep work and it gets all of our creative juices flowing.
Blogging really helps share my passion but I do find it hard to come up with topics that one might enjoy. I usually write up a list of topics and then write about one once a week.
