Without question, one of my favorite parts of planning for the holidays is when we start thinking about food and decor (basically, now).
This year, I am having about 50 friends and family members over for Thanksgiving dinner, and after doing practically every color under the sun for past Thanksgivings, I’m thinking about creating the ultimate all-white Thanksgiving table.
I love the arrangement I have with my family for Thanksgiving. I create all the decor and general setting and my two sisters Aminta and Olivia take care of all the food.
We even started a food tradition. In addition to all the great tradtional Thanksgiving food and trimmings, my sisters also like to prepare some food to honor our Panamanian heritage.
This year they’re preparing our traditional arroz con pollo and tamales. I am planning to break my new raw food diet so I can enjoy these panamanians delights. Can. Not. Wait.
What type of design are you planning for your Thanksgiving table? Other than turkey what is your favorite Thanksgiving food? Is there any food you prepare a bit “out of the box” for this holiday?

Sure sounds like a grand time. What a nice way to celebrate Thanksgiving by bringing your own flavor to the table. My girlfriend from St. Croix taught me how to make arroz con pollo. Very tasty dish. I hope you have a great time with your friends and family. Early Happy Thanksgiving to you!! Cheers!

Oh how yummy, Preston! I love mixing the traditional with the non-traditional. Since my husband and I live in Germany we’ll be creating our own Thanksgiving holiday and meal, with a few US trimmings (turkey, my Great Grandmother’s famous southern styled stuffing, mashed potatoes, and some cranberries). But seeing how Germany doesn’t exactly offer too many American-style treats, especially Thanksgiving foods, we will probably be including some traditional German Christmas desserts (Lebkuechen and Stollen, mmmm), and, of course, beer and a nice Cabernet!! Enjoy your holidays, Preston, and have a fun time with friends and family, good food, and fabulous design!!

Being a military family, we decided to stay home and have Thanksgiving with our friends. Our Thanksgiving is called “Thanksgiving in a clear view”. I am going to use vibrant colors for the linen and everything that is being served in a clear/glass dish. Each dish will have a little know fact about that particular dish. Every plate will be clear glass and underneath will be a “small topic of discussion” to be viewed through the plate. As people finish their meal, they can start a conversation on that topic so we can laugh and enjoy. I’m sure you going to enjoy your family and friends, great food and laughter……….don’t eat too much!

Very similar to tamales, Trinidadians have a dish called Pastel. It’s a meat filling in a corn mixture that is then wrapped in banana/plantain leaves which is then tied with string and placed in a pot to boil. It’s so yummy. We also make pastels for Christmas as well along with a drink called Sorrel. I adore the holidays and love the process of making this traditional dishes such as Pastel that take quite a while to make, but well worth it in the end when family and friends gather. I love the autumn colors all around both as decor inside, and nature’s own beauty.

I’m making jerk turkey with jalepeno cornbread dressing. I tried it a couple of years ago and it was a huge hit. We’ll be enjoying it again this year. We are officially over traditional roast turkey.

That all looks so goooood! One of the many things i am thankful for is meeting you, and having the ability to call you my fairy god father. I probably won’t be doing much for Thanks Giving as it really is a new holiday for me and i won’t have family around. But i would love to make some oxtails and maybe even ackee and saltfish. Yum Yum!
