As we continue getting ready for the coming new year, I think it is the perfect time to start discussing our New Year’s Business Resolutions.
I’d like to remind myself of some past resolutions that have worked, and maybe incorporate a few new ones.
- Make peace with your business’ past so it won’t spoil the present.
- Call five former clients and tell them you appreciated their business.
- Work diligently to create a good website.
- Spend 30 minutes a day working on improving your creativity.
- Publicity is essential. Call three magazines or TV shows at least once a week.
- Make sure you make at least 50% profit on your services or items.
- Give the best service and care possible to all clients or potential clients.
- Create at least five designs and ideas never seen before.
- Create a new and great portfolio of all your work or services
- Make sure you leave time to spend with family and loved ones.
Resolutions are more effective if they are reachable, and at the same time doable.
Please share your New Year’s Business Resolutions, even if it means adapting a few of the above. Are there any business goals you’d like to accomplish for the New Year?

George Bernard Shaw once said: “You see things and say, ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were and say, ‘Why not?’” That quote embodies how Preston Bailey approaches every event.

Where to start? I need a website to begin with. I am doing my first (small) bridal show and I want to get at least 20 sales from it. I want to increase my prices on new designs and I want to make enough money to pay off my student debt and finish the Larabanga (Ghana) borehole project that has been in the works for years.

Preston I know we have to keep it creative but I love yours – can I add a few of those to mine. I love the “Create at least five designs and ideas never seen before”

First order of business is to update and improve my website. I also will be working to improve my sales presentation. I think spending 30 minutes a day on improving creativity is an excellent one!

That is a really awesome list of resolutions. My resolution includes attending wedding business seminars and conferences, attending Engage 11 (keeping my fingers crossed on that one), and using my talents to contribute to a charity is some way. Oh and a new website is a must!

I definitely have some resolutions.
1) I just changed the name of the company to something that is easier and simple for people to remember. My Pastor always says “people say no to what’s confusing” and he’s right. People wondered if I spelled exquisite incorrectly or would ask me to spell it or say excuse me five times. Not to mention, when you would google “exquiseete weddings & events” it would ask “do you mean exquisite weddings and events” and that is a competitor’s site. Shooting myself in the foot.
2) Website do-over. Here’s the new site… http://www.eventsbyrayna.com
3) Take a floral class
4) Enroll in your design course. (I have already completed the event planning course at the Wedding Planning Institute)
5) Enjoy the second half of my first year of marriage.
6) Spend more time creating designs and themes before the client even calls…
7) Work on my branding.

My main project for next year is to increase my sales and get my name out there.
I also like the idea of creating new designs. I think that’s something i’ll be working on as well.
I intend to take a floral and design class as well.

Great business goals above!
I have a heavy focus on the following.
1. Strengthening my Design & Creativity. I will definitely work on building at least 5 Story Boards.
2. I have several portfolio’s, but will design two big ones. One for Weddings and One for Corporate.
3. Continued Branding efforts.
Thanks Again!
