Looking back on 2010, I can easily say it was a year of growing pains. There are two things that kept me going regardless of all the ups and downs.
One of them has been writing my blog–getting the opportunity to vent, review my mistakes, and share the same issues with all of you regardless of the size or types of business we are all confronting.
The second has been escaping into the world of service and design. I saw a huge change in taste, colors and services my clients requested, and I think that mostly has to do with the economic landscape.
In my blog posts throughout this week, I’d like to go over some of the things I learned and noticed in 2010 to see if you had a similar or completely different experience.
Today’s poll is about the most requested styles. Did your clients mostly request:
- Modern (This is what most of my clients wanted last year.)
- Traditional
- A mixture of Modern and Traditional
- Eclectic
Were the looks…
- Minimalist (Where less is more)
- Pretty but not too overdone
- Over the top (Where more is better)
- DIY (Whatever that look is)
I am extremely interested to hear about what your clients mostly wanted. I also think you are going to be very surprise tomorrow when I divulge what my wonderful clients mostly wanted and why.

George Bernard Shaw once said: “You see things and say, ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were and say, ‘Why not?’” That quote embodies how Preston Bailey approaches every event.

At A Classic Party Rental, most of my brides wanted a more modern look for their wedding…I saw lots of eggplants, golds, and jewel tones still. If modern wasn’t their style, some brides attempted DIY ideas. The looks were pretty, but not too overdone.

Hi Preston,
I’ve been in the business since 2006, however just opened up my business in Feb.2009 and recently changed the name of my business. I have done two weddings this year. Both were DYI brides. My November client had a Fall Theme Wedding. My October client really did not have a theme, so I’m not sure how to really respond to your question.
I hope next year to have more clients. I’m a big fan of yours and admire your work!!!
Sincerely,
Ruthie Turner

We had a lot of brides with vintage and rustic visions this year. It was a lot of fun shopping in old antique shops for vases and tablescapes. We also had our share of modern brides but I would say the biggest change was the love of vintage.

Here in Rome I noticed that m clients requested traditional with a modern twist. This probably because the churches here are so ancient that you really can’t go tastefully completely modern. They other thing is that they reqested fewer pieces but the ones that they chose were more flashy… making a statement with less. I think they tried to keep expenses lower.

most of my bride requested my personal taste to their wedding – in which they know it will have modern touch with flowers everywhere possible…

For wedding florals in the midwest there’s been a lot of purist white approaches, and the vintage and rustic look. Barnyard receptions, beautiful white lights, maybe Chinese Lanterns, organic flowers, simple and chic….

We had a mix of everything in 2010. When looking at the stats on my blog, the number one search term for last year and this year so far is DIY Wedding Centerpieces. This says a lot about the economy, I believe.
This year, I have several vintage weddings, with color schemes mostly including some shade of purple, or black, white, and apple green. One bride wants modern, but for the most part, brides in our area aren’t fans of modern.
