Candles bring a certain ambience that just can’t be reproduced with other types of lighting. Here are a few of my favorite ways to decorate with candles:
Everyone loves candles but how do you avoid those messy wax accidents in your design? Find out in tomorrow’s post…
But first, I have a question for you. There are basically three kinds of candle shapes:
- Votive (small tea lights in small glass containers)
- Pillar candles (chunky, sometimes squat shaped candles of various sizes)
- Tapers (tall, thin candles of varying heights)
Do you prefer votives, pillars, or tapers and why?

George Bernard Shaw once said: “You see things and say, ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were and say, ‘Why not?’” That quote embodies how Preston Bailey approaches every event.

candles are totally worth the trouble.
to me there is nothing like the flickering light of a candle bouncing off the other surfaces in a display or on a table
i use all types of candles often and i have a lot of holders and use various plates and saucers to hold them but if i had to choose a favorite, i would say pillar because of the variety of heights and sizes they come in.

We’ve found the best way to remove wax drippings rapidly and without much staining is with dry ice. Instantly freezes any drippings on contact to make for easy scraping away with the back of a design knife.
Fire codes permitting, I’ve a few times used kerosene lamps and candle gels with great success… but in terms of cost effectiveness I tend to agree that battery operated candles are probably the best bet… bride willing of course.
