FAQs: What do you really want for your business?

What do you truly want, and I mean really want, for your business? I asked this question at a speech, and these are the top 10 top answers I received:

  1. To be # 1 in the industry.
  2. Make a comfortable living.
  3. Have a profitable business that keeps increasing every year.
  4. Be a trendsetter and become famous.
  5. Be a company that is innovative and creative while making a profit.
  6. Love my business so much that it feels like play.
  7. Make a million dollars in two years.
  8. Create a business “tribe” that feels like a family–where everyone feels good about coming to work.
  9. A business where service is the number one priority.
  10. A business where I can express my creativity while making a fortune

Personally, what I want for my business keeps changing every year. For now, what’s important to me is developing a world wide brand. (Hey, I can dream too can’t I?)

It’s your turn. Which of the above do you relate to? Or, tell me about something not on this list you truly want and need for your business.

I love your dream! And I think is almost a reality!! For my business:
    1. Make a profitable business.
    2. Start our own magazine and become a trendsetter with it and a platform for creativity.
    3. Create our own line of products.
I know is possible!!! I know!!!

I need someone I can trust. Or learn how to trust others with my business. Or both. I think letting go is part of that too, ha!

What do I want for David M. Handy Event Design & Planning? Well I want my brand to be recognized in a much larger demographic, allowing me to travel more to create one of a kind events. I started my business in Boston and now have an office in New York as well, Boston is doing really well and New York is going to take some time to “break” into the scene. I would love to be more in demand to be able to raise my pricing as well as take on client with larger budgets.

I would combine #2, #6, and #10. As a wedding/event planner, I love what I do, but at the same time I want to make sure I’m making enough money for this to be considered my lifetime career, not just a hobby.

This year I would like my business to generate enough income that I am able to work for myself full time without having to have a “back up” job. My goal in 5 years is for both myself and my associate to be working for ourselves full time. We live on an island so its all about bringing in outside events for this to happen.. maybe I should be thinking of making this year’s goal to create an amazing destination wedding marketing plan instead!

I can relate to some of those on the list. However my biggest one would be to be the best in the industry.

    2. To make a profitable business and not fail.
    3. Be able to be successful at my business.

Wow. I’m with #10 all the way, and I’m really surprised that it’s #10!
The spontaneous creativity under pressure and time-constraints is what drives me completely.

Create a business “tribe” that feels like a family–where everyone feels good about coming to work.

This is a great goal! You hear all of the time people saying that they can’t wait until Friday… What about, “I can’t wait until Monday” :)

Short term – to start my business properly, get 10 wedding jobs this year and a chance to work for you, Preston!
Long term – no. 2, 3 and 6 above, I want to be able to work with flowers and earn more than my previous job, I want to travel lots for both business and for fun, I want to publish my own book, I want to have clients with generous budgets and appreciate all the flowers that I love, I want to be in demand, I want to have my own line of floral bath products and candles one day, too many dreams!!

I would like to become known by only using “cost-free” advertising, by referral and through social media efforts. I want my business to flourish because of my efforts in online social media marketing and also because my wedding industry friends find me a wonderful coordinator.

My goal is also to be internationally recognised in delivering extraordinary experiences to our Corporate Clients.

I want to be the best, so I’ll say I agree with #1, being #1 in the industry. And life you Mr. Bailey, when I reach that goal, I go onto something else.

Definitely two and three, I don’t need to be famous. That’s definitely not what I’m aiming for in this industry. I feel like a lot of people in the event industry forget that it’s not about them… it’s about our clients. And of course, number six because I left a job that I wasn’t passionate about.
