Venting: Valentine’s Day

(Vintage Valentine Image via Karen Horton)

Living in New York and walking to work, I counted at least 18 floral delivery trucks this morning, busy and hectic, delivering millions of floral arrangements to loved ones.

From a business point of view, I was happy to see that. We could all use the business.

Valentine’s day is about celebrating LOVE. I find that love is found in the most unexpected places.

In today’s Venting, I’d like to hear from you about how you met your significant other, and also give you an opportunity to send them a public love note.

Let me start: I met my partner Theo Bleckmann at the gym.

(Sorry folks. I know, not only is this boring, but it couldn’t be more predictable. I have always told him we should re-invent a great meeting story). Theo, happy Valentine’s Day. Thank you for really getting me, and accepting me exactly as I am.

Valentine’s day is also a celebration of soul friends. If you have a close friend or business partner you love, please tell us how you met and how they have affected your life.

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you!

I met my husband when he was my first husband’s accountant … when my first husband was married to his third wife…. as you can tell, it’s a really long story…but we’ve been happily married now for 35 years.

I met my husband at a ballroom dancing class. My best girlfriend from High School was going to be getting married in July, and she wanted to dance at her wedding. Since her fiance was living in California at the time, and I was going to be her Maid-of-Honor, we went to the class together. Tony was one of the assistant instructors for the class. Since we rotated couples after each song, I eventually had a chance to dance with him. We were married 12.5 months later, and just celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary last week.

After 7 years of being single, I met Isaiah! We met at a train station and neither of us had planned on being at THAT station, that day. It was truly a chance meeting and we soon realized that we are two halves of the same coin. We couldn’t have more in common if we were Twins. It been 19 months now, and we laugh and have as much fun as we did when we met. Each day is a new adventure and we look forward to enjoying what every new day will bring. Happy Valentines Day

True LOVE = MAN + WOMAN
Perhaps one day you’ll meet the WOMAN of yours dreams. Until then, You REALLY
have not yet TASTED what LOVE is, and was DESIGNED to be.

I actually met my husband in a bar…which I know most people shake their heads. Well 17 years and 3 kidss later, my heart still flutters when he walks into the room and there is nothing better than spending your life with your best friend..yes, someone that really GETS you. And after reading some of the other comments…well… What a shame you feel that way Norah. True love is felt with the heart and comes in all shapes, sizes and forms. Love is what makes the world go round…open hearts and open minds! Happy Valentines Day Preston from someone you inspire every day!

My boyfriend and I met 19 years ago in a bar in New York City. I know a bar. Preston I laughed when you said you wish you had a more romantic story to tell about how you and your special someone met. Well, I actually have a story I often tell about how Frank and I met. “We both were in attendance at a Van Gogh exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.” Because I’m an artist and my Boo works in the fashion industry, there’s generally no question to my tale. Ha ha. Hee hee. Happy Valentine’s Day everybody!

I met my sweetheart as we were both working at the famed Waldorf=Astoria Hotel. I first saw my husband as I was waiting for a client at the clock in the hotel Lobby. I still remember what he was wearing…he is so handsome. We both continued to work there for several years; celebrating our marriage and the birth of our first child, a beautiful son named Tomas, with our amazing Waldorf Family. It sometimes doesn’t seem real…a true New York fairytale…XOXO, Tamara

Our parents worked together for a mission organisation in Kathmandu, Nepal! We ended up being born in the same maternity bed of Kathmandu Hospital, 3 months apart!! Went to school together…were best friends throughout…and finally got married when we were 23! 4 kids later we are happier than ever! Sad but true!!! Love ya Preston…you are an inspiration even in the UK!!
