The Inspiring Cadaverous Flower

cadaverous flower preston bailey inspiration

Folks always ask me where I get my inspiration, and nothing inspires me more than Mother Nature.

Like the Cadaverous flower, which is known as the stinkiest flower in the world. It only blooms once every forty years — and even then it lives for just three days!

There are only a few around the world, and the one in Veracruz, Blanco, Mexico managed to reach a height of 6 5/8 feet tall and 165 pounds. Pretty incredible, right? It makes me want to thank God for creating such marvels for our world.

Of course, now I can’t wait to duplicate this flower in a new design!

Dear Readers, what do you think? How would you use this beautiful flower in your work?

  1. We had one of the plants in Houston last year, at one of the museums. It was a big hit and drew lots of attention. They named the flower “Audrey.” A bride was having her wedding reception at the museum at the time the stinky plant was there but she nor her guests seemed to mind the smell. She even got some free press for her wedding.

I am more curious about what this flower teaches me about life. The name CADAVEROUS? Resembling a corpse in being very pale, thin, or bony. It’s stinky, blooms every forty years and then dies in 3 days…ummmm

For a design perspective however, I am sure that Preston will translate this into a magnificent work of floral art and I look forward to seeing his interpretation.
