Dear Readers,
As many of you know, I adore diamonds, gems, crystals–just about anything that sparkles and makes a statement. I’m also a big fan of mother nature, which is why I have always enjoyed the designs of Van Cleef and Arpels. In my humble opinion, the design house does a magnificent job of of incorporating fantasy, nature, and elegance into timeless pieces that are classic, yet remain relevant as they are passed from one generation to the next.
I was recently made aware the house is showcasing over 400 dazzling designs which will be displayed at Arts Décoratifs in Paris from now through February. I personally would love to view the exhibition as it’s always wonderful to see how the eye of design has changed over the years. Would you?
Today, I would like to ask you what designers inspire you and why? Also, how do you think design has changed over the years?
Blessings,
Preston

Ooooh! I LOVE THIS QUESTION! The classics will always have a place in my heart – Lanvin, Schiaparelli, Chanel, Balmain, Valentino (and my list goes on and on….). But some of these new kids on the block really know what’s up – Philip Lim, Yigal Azrouel, Randolph Duke, Elie Saab and for Jewelry, my current love is Alexis Bittar.
Anyone that can create clean, classic designs that are still feminine and edgy are great in my book. I don’t think good design (which is separate from fashion trend) has not changed much since people started wearing clothing – great tailoring, quality materials, flattering color and fit, will always have a place in our wardrobes.
