Defining Moments

big bang, preston bailey blog

Dear Readers,

Throughout my career, there have been times that I have sailed and fallen, or soared and hit unexpected road blocks. Many times, these periods are preceded or followed by a moment of clarity, often a defining one, that helps me to reassess and regroup while also helping me to transition from one chapter to another.  Some refer to these as “a-ha! moments”, but to me they are universal proof that we have completed a lesson and are moving onto the next one.

Today, I would like to hear about one of your defining moments. Please tell us about a defining moment in your life and how it impacted your career.  I truly look forward to reading your responses.
I also would like to highlight the image I used for today’s blog post. The image comes from a 2011 sculpture and video installation in Beijing done by artist Zhan Wang. It is truly a remarkable work of art.

Blessings,

Preston

This is exactly the post I was looking for these days. Knowing that someone like you , so famous and so wise, had his own road blocks and falls turns my last period into a more accetable one. I have taken a pause from my wedding planning job at the beginning of this year probably more because I was feeling too stressed and had to stop.
Now I’m back louder and stronger than ever, this is really the defining moment in my life and career. Never felt so passionate about my job.
Takes time and tears to understand that a job is a lot more than “just” a job, to understand it’s all ..to understand it’s “just” everything to me.
now the top is my goal

    Thanks for your words

Many a time, we live in a fear of derailing and find it hard to accept the reality thinking that this may be our last chance. In fact, there is always ray of sunshine at the end of the tunnel.

There have been moments in my life at a professional and personal level when I thought what is next. All I do is to gather my courage and fight with my fear. I have learnt through difficult times that I have to leave ” if ” behind like a shadow. My faith in myself comes from my faith in God allowing me to have experiences to learn and move forward.

I totally relate to the ‘defining moments’ – the title was enough. I have done floral design for many weddings, but there are a couple that really stand out to me as definite learning curves – my first ‘big’ wedding, which expanded my album and reputation and allowed future clients to see what I could do with a bigger budget; the wedding that was so exhausting I finally admitted I needed to hire some help to lighten the load; the client that challenged me creatively so much I lost sleep thinking ‘I can’t do it’, then the high when I realised how much that challenge grew my self confidence… I love the highs and lows of ‘defining moments’ – they are opportunity to grow.

I love that photo! I think a huge defining moment for me was when I booked my first client. It was a very “Hey, you see, I’m not crazy!” moment. It taught me that my approach obviously fills a void in the market, and that I was a accurate salesperson for my own abilities as well as my event planning firm.
